Elara’s Annoying Ache
Elara was a vibrant graphic designer in Ann Arbor, always on the go. Lately, however, a nagging toothache had started to overshadow her usually bright demeanor. It wasn't constant; sometimes it would disappear for days, only to return with a vengeance when she bit into something crunchy or sipped her morning coffee. This intermittent pain was starting to become a real problem, affecting her concentration and enjoyment of food.
She'd tried to ignore it at first, hoping it was just a temporary sensitivity. "Maybe I just brushed too hard," she'd tell herself, or "It'll pass." But the cycles continued, making her increasingly uneasy. The uncertainty was almost worse than the pain itself, the dread of not knowing when the next pang would strike.
One evening, while enjoying dinner with her partner, Kai, a sharp jolt left her wincing. Kai, noticing her discomfort, gently suggested she see a dentist. "Don't wait for it to get worse, Elara," he advised, echoing a fear she'd been trying to suppress. It was clear ignoring it wasn't working anymore.
